The Cleveland Cavaliers were outraged that PG Mo Williams was not initially chosen for the 2008-2009 All Star Game. Williams has consistently been the Cavs second best player, taking a lot of the scoring load off of Lebron. The Cavs had soared off to one of the best records in the league, along with being undefeated at home. They even did all of this while having the biggest dork in the NBA as their head coach (and I am including Lawrence Frank, who looks like he got around 3.6 wedgies per week in high school). So why was it that Williams was not selected on the first go around? Taking a look at the roster, I see one glaring injustice. It happens at every All-Star game; the legacy pick. Allen Iverson in no way, shape, or form deserves to be on the All Star team this year. Since his trade to Detroit, they have been consistently mediocre and it has been Rodney Stuckey, not AI, that has looked like the All Star. AI can still create, and is in the top echelon in the league in that category. However, he simply does not bring it in so many other facets of the game. So Cavs' fans, Iverson could be replaced with your man Mo'.
Fast forward to earlier this week, when Magic PG (and deserving All Star) Jameer Nelson goes down with a torn labrum and will be out for the season. Cavs fans immediately think Williams will be a shoo-in to replace Nelson. The pick goes to David Stern, and surely he will pick Maurice, right? Hold the hot sauce, everyone forgot about the biggest All-Star snub of the year, Ray Allen. If the Cavs want to argue that Williams has been one of the top players on one of the top teams, they have made the case for Allen being the pick. Allen has been the Celtics most consistent scorer all season, shooting 49% from the field, over 40% from downtown, 94% from the line, while averaging 3.5 boards, 3 assists, and a steal per game. That is consistency, and Allen has been the rock offensively for the East's best team. So Ben Wallace can cry all he wants, calling Williams' non-selection a "shamockery". What that exactly means, I am not sure. It could be a finishing maneuver for late 90's WWF submission and MMA legend, Ken Shamrock. Nonetheless, Ben Wallace has lost his talking privileges after air balling over 100 free throws over his career. Also, these kids own his soul.
That is the end of that issue.
Around the world of sports:
- Remember all the Sixers To The Finals talk from the preseason? Elton Brand, thanks to some injuries, has been the biggest free agent bust since Jack Parkman went to the Indians in Major League II. The sad thing is, they are still in the hunt to make the playoffs in the East. Sad.
- Pat Summit had her 1000th win last night. In other news, Jeff Jarrett has a message for her.
That's all for today, NRTTS.
Coach Deuce
What you talking about Deuce? Parkman wasn't a bust, hell he was carrying the team by himself while they were working out the kinks. Sure he wasn't good for team chemistry, but he was definitely not a bust.
ReplyDeleteHe was a huge bust in that he was a cancer inside the clubhouse. He single-handedly tore up the most cohesive group of guys in cinematic history.
ReplyDeleteThe ladies loved his little shimmy at the plate.
ReplyDeleteThose kids own Ben for sure.
Mo was still robbed.
I agree Mo was robbed. Neither Iverson or Rashard Lewis should be on the All-Star team ahead of him this season.
ReplyDeleteYou can't honestly say Parkman was a cancer to the clubhouse. Sure he was an asshole, but at least he showed up that season ready to play. Hayes was trying to jack HRs, Cerrano goes all pussy Buddha on everyone, Vaughn was trying to throw junkballs, Taylor was too old.
I'd say it was more their fault things went awry than Parkman's. He still did his job despite how shitty everyone else was playing.
This is Winters
ReplyDeleteI started to get pissed, but than I realized what a joke the All-Star game really is and I was ok. That being said... MO GOT SNUBBED!
P.S. Parkman was a dick
